On Twitter and friendship

hugesharkWe hear often that Twitter is full of awful people who like nothing better than to attack and insult. While those people undoubtedly exist, I’d like to take a moment to write about the others. defsmithThe wonderful people, the true friends that I have met since joining Twitter six years ago. If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’re one of them.

captain_doodleI won’t name individuals for fear of forgetting someone, but know this – in 2014 Twitter has led me through back streets I didn’t know existed in search of exciting new wheelie bin numbers. Twitter joined me at rosamundiYSP in happy throngs to picnic and play amongst the sculptures. Around a hundred of you threw yourselves enthusiastically into Twanta and sent Christmas gifts to strangers. Twitter responded to my woe at the fifi_bonfuckugly state of my feet, and desire to try painting my fingernails (inspired by @defsmith that one, I don’t mind naming her as my inspiration for that) by giving me a gift token for a posh manicure and pedicure.

ginlingtonMost importantly, Twitter has been an immense support through my black moods, and late night howls into the void. You have helped me immensely, talking me through all the shyte and offering immensely lizzywelshcakepractical help. You kept my head above water. You know who you are, and you get a special hug.

jo_parry_tweetsTo sum up – throughout the year, my lovelies, you have brought me joy, entertainment, thrills and laughter. You’re astonishing, and I’m honoured to know you. Every single one of you that I talk to on Twitter adds to something that is very special to me – my Twitter timeline.dinkymum

3TnaaHMu_biggerSo you, reading this now – thank you for being my friend.

Two Little DucksPlenty of scope this week. Your #SUNDAYPIX theme for 21st December is

Post your pics to Twitter on Sunday (including the hashtag #SUNDAYPIXwater in your tweet) and see how many people photograph their bath. As ever, photographs must be yours (or your family’s or your secret lover’s) – nowt just nicked off the internet. Yes, you can post an old pic you’ve previously taken, or even one from your family history. Follow the hashtag (click on it in any tweet or add a column to your app) on Sunday to see what others have made of the theme. You are encouraged, nay ordered, to comment on other Sundaypickers’ tweets and snigger.

Christmas avis

A short collection of some of my favourite Christmas avatars from my Twitter followers. Hover over each pic to see who it is – they’re all fascinating, so give them a follow. This isn’t exhaustive, and I’ll add to it if I spot any more that speak to me.

#NuddyChristmas on Christmas Eve?

28QrapNQ_400x400Look at that innocent face (and rather fine baubly earring). Innocent-looking indeed, and yet the gobsmackingly beautiful @Gaiamojo has urged me to have #NuddyChristmas again this year after we indulged in a hugely giggly risqué Twitter thread a week or two back. Also involved, I hope, will be @chrispinto and @jo_parry_tweets

…and you, if you feel brave and full of fun. On Christmas Eve (after nine, so as not to frighten the kiddies, you are invited to join us in posting a picture of yourself naked but for something Christmassy in a strategic spot. Use the hashtag #NuddyChristmas so that people can see and comment and chat and giggle and join in.

Remember – Christmas Eve, after 9pm.

dscf1040And the ground rules remain the same – no porn (though eroticism is fine), and no posting photos of someone else without permission. Remember, there should be something Christmassy in your pic (booze will do!). Other than that, use your imagination and your wit to amuse those assembled when you post your pic on Twitter using the #NuddyChristmas hashtag. If you need ideas, check out the previous #NuddyChristmas.
